Former Chelsea staff member Eddie Newton discussed Roman Abramovich’s crucial role with the Academy in an interview with Athletic.
The most recent role of the ex-Bleu was that of technical coach on loan with the club.
Speaking to Athletic, Newton praised the Chelsea owner for his role at the Academy.
He said: “They will always have a real interest in bringing in young players and that comes directly from the owner, Roman Abramovich.
“He plans to win Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues with six-seven local players and add a few stars / experienced stars around him to win several trophies year after year. That’s the dream.”
Chelsea have raised £ 90million through the sale of academy players this summer but despite departures Thomas Tuchel is keen to give youngsters a chance.
This has been proven as Trevoh Chalobah has had the opportunity to impress and he has been told he will stay at Chelsea this season.
Last season’s winning Champions League campaign saw several Academy graduates in the squad and the Blues owner wants more Cobham players.
The Blues have let several Academy graduates go this summer, but with buyout and sell clauses included in the majority of their deals, they could one day return to Stamford Bridge.
