Houston’s viral violin virtuoso rocks the Hobby Center to kick off US tour

A global fiddle star who’s setting social media on fire with her epic covers and TV looks is kicking off a new tour where it all began: Houston.

Bayou City-based performer/YouTuber/TikTok star Demola the violinist will kick off a highly anticipated US tour with a show at Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, August 21 at 7 p.m. featuring the Sunrise Band and other artists. (Tickets are still available.) The weight of this particular Hobby concert is not lost on the man who has made appearances on national television.

“It’s a dream come true,” Demola told CultureMap. “It’s me who is clearly living my visions in real time. It’s amazing and a huge blessing to perform in such a prestigious place.

Adored around the world, the award-winning multi-genre violin artist brings his electric personality and musical talent to any festival, event or private party (as evidenced by his social media pages). Fans praise his swagger, charm and NFL player physique, but most importantly, his fusion of diverse Afrobeat timbres, the colorful sounds of reggae, the lively bounce of hip-hop and a host of dynamic pop tones.

Charismatic and utterly natural on video, he’s equally comfortable embarking on classical music work that he pivots to an Ed Sheeran single (performed while strolling downtown) or the Mark Morrison jam. groove-infused “Return of the Mack” – the latter spawning choice comments on YouTube. “Bruhhh if I knew it was possible with the violin in elementary school,” exclaims a viewer, “I could stay with that! My mind is just blown away!!”

These crazy skills have earned him over 2 million social media followers, many of whom turn to his music for inspiration and entertainment. Several of his TikTok videos have gone viral. He also travels the world to share his musical talent. “My tour is going well,” he said. “It’s amazing how much people love my music and react to my music when I play. Hailing from Lagos (born Ademola Daniel Babafemi), Demola has been the official violinist for many award-winning legendary R&B bands, including Tony! Tony! Tone and D’wayne Wiggins. And earlier this year he released his latest album, titled Feelings (watch him discuss it here).
