And now for something very different – a new Fender Custom Shop Telecaster guitar inspired by one of the best violins ever made.
Renowned American musician Joshua Bell has owned the 1713 “Gibson ex-Huberman” Stradivarius violin since 2001. An instrument which has been in the possession of a number of talented violinists since the 1700s. Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Yuriy Shishkov made him his muse for his latest Fender Custom Shop creation.
âWhen I started designing the Violinmaster, I had to include as many violin elements as possible in the guitar,â says Shishkov.. “With a Telecaster” backdrop “platform, I was able to include arched violin-style sculpted profiles in the back and top, violin net, newly designed” floating “bridge, string tailpiece and, more importantly, a proportional scale copy of the Huberman Violin Stradivarius “F” Holes.
“In the ‘Violinmaster’ concept, I wanted to ‘mix’ the violin and the classic Telecaster guitar without adding something that a guitarist would never need,” adds the luthier. âFor me, innovation is a never-ending process that is part of my job. It helps me do something better, new or even impossible.
The Fender patent-pending floating bridge has four interchangeable saddles (Bronze, Ocean Coral, Buffalo Horn, and Ebony) which will ship in a small “violin case” made from the remains of the body’s flamed maple “core”. . The Violinmaster also features a custom made ebony / brass tailpiece.
âI was simply blown away by the beauty of the Fender Custom Shop guitar and amazed at how Yuriy managed to capture the spirit and aesthetics of my 1713 Stradivarius violin, while creating something quite unique, âsaid Joshua Bell.
The hollow flamed maple body has a sculpted ‘Stradivari’ spruce top from the Fiemme Valley in northern Italy with proportional scale Stradivarius violin holes and fillets. The neck is constructed from Bosnian flamed maple with an oval “C” shaped profile, head tuning rod adjustment and no skunk scratching. The 9.5 inch radius round laminated ebony fingerboard has 22 medium jumbo frets. The neck and body feature authentic “Antiqued” hand-polished European violin varnish.
The Violinmaster is also a versatile guitar with three passive piezo pickups and two TV Jones Thunder’Blade pickups and three-way pickup switching.
Additional features include black tuners with ebony knobs, graphite nut, and disc string shaft. Only 60 Fender Violinmaster Telecaster Relic Custom Shop guitars will be available worldwide.
